Name: Starmaws
Appearance: Starmaw's are the mutated from of starfish. Most typically have five arms that surround the central most part of their body. Although larger Starmaw's may have more than this. Their names come from their shape and their mouth. Their mouth has mutated so it remains always open with an assortment of teeth perfect for ripping apart meats.
Notable Traits: The Starmaw is the outcome of long term radiation effects on Starfish. A Starmaw are able to reproduce asexually which have allowed them to adapt to their aquatic surroundings away from oceans. They do not think on actions, rather they just react to stimuli. They are sensitive to touch, light and temperature changes. They can orientate themselves through the murky water that makes up their environment. They may survive up to one hour on land but ultimately they need to return to the water before then. They hunt through their sensitivity to chemicals. Through this they can detect when food has entered the water. They are slow creatures but they tend to hunt in groups.
Behavior: Starmaw's are aggressive about one thing; food. They are not territorial creatures by any means. Starmaw's tend to hunt in groups of anywhere from three to seven starmaw's at any given time. They are not fast creatures nor are they particularly intelligent. They may become confused if given too much outside stimuli, allowing for potential prey to escape. They will eat anything organic that is not their own species.
Brief History: The Starmaw's were once the creatures left abandoned in a local aquarium. A combination of radiation and time has created this omnivorous species. Nowadays they are commonly known for their senses and their meat. It's not particularly difficult to kill a lone Starmaw but their group behavior can offer more risk. Still, they are a source of food and some danger for those who routinely travel near or on the rivers in the region.
Habitat: The Starmaw's live in the water's in and around the Cincinnati area. They may travel up onto land but for the most part they keep to the rivers.
Name: Duskers
Appearance: For the most part Duskers appear as normal human beings. When introduced to natural UV rays from the sun however, they become aggressive and openly show their mutations. Their eyes grow bloodshot and their veins, now visibly begin to protrude slightly from their skin. These changes may also occur when their emotions get out of control.
Notable Traits: Aside from their physical appearance in direct sunlight or when agitated, they also show a remarkable durability. The common Dusker may survive multiple bullet wounds and heal faster than normal humans. They are stronger, faster when in this state. However they lose a great deal of intelligence and become increasingly volatile. They may even harm a family member when enraged. They have normal human lifespans.
Behavior: On average a Dusker can act and live as a normal human being. However they avoid long exposure to the waste's due to the stresses and abundance of sunlight. Both of which can cause a bad reaction with their biology. When they lose control/come in direct contact with sunlight they become incredibly volatile. They tend to keep to themselves and discourage any interest in the outside world as a whole. Their mutation is the best kept secret of their society.
Brief History: The Dusker's came from a virus given to the residents of Vault 84. Unchecked mutations began quickly which surprised the Overseer and researcher's who stayed among the population. The virus changed the residents and the security were overwhelmed. An attempt was made to isolate the worst cases. The outcome of this action led to a quick but bloody civil war in the vault. The infected residents were the victor's of that fight. They eventually elected a new leader, a new Overseer to rebuild what their fighting and agitation had destroyed. Over time the descendants of the vault became a proper society, barring the few incidents that came with early exploration.
Nowadays Vault 84 is known for the water trade and reclusive nature. Attacks are typically useless as the population will fiercely defend their home. They may take in new people to keep their vault birth rates going. For the most part these instances aren't met with much fanfare as these people are never seen outside like the typical Vaultie of this place.
Habitat: The Duskers are the descendants of the residents of Vault 84. They are not an overly large population but a sizable community in all. They may leave their underground home to travel with close settlements but all Duskers only stay out during night hours.
Other: Vault 84 is led by an Overseer named Leven 'Lev' Brissett. No one aside from the few married in outsider has seen more than the vault's entrance room. For now this will be a purely NPC species.
